091213 -FN3 / The End of Dualisms

The whole business of correlations and dichotomies within dualisms was put to an end by Niccolo Machiavelli who established a separate moral (or amoral) universe for the State. The so-called Divine Right of Kings was not a medieval doctrine but rather a product of the Rennaisance. Louis XIV was rather more down to earth. Who stood above "the many"? L'Etat, c'est Moi.

In truth however, dualisms and analogies between them cannot be avoided. To this day our thinking is replete with correlations between the one and the many and dichotomies between the "actual" and the "ideal".
